Tyler met with Dr. Wilcox and the nurse navigator on Thursday. It was amazing he was able to meet with them so quickly. Sheila, the nurse navigator, sat and explained how Chemo would go and the side effects of it. I think there are close to 80 possible side effects of Chemotherapy. It wasn't super comforting. The way cancer patients feel usually go in cycles. Tyler will feel okay for the first couple days after chemotherapy, then he will feel rough, and then it gets even worse, rough again and then better a couple days before he goes in for more treatment.
On Friday February 11, Tyler received his first of 6 chemotherapy treatments. He will go in for chemotherapy every 3 weeks for 18 weeks. The nurses had a tough time placing the I.V. so he was poked 3 times. Apparently his veins kept rolling out of the way. His veins probably have PTSD from all the blood they took last week in Denver. Once the I.V. was placed then came the anti nausea medication, Chemo drug 1 and then Chemo drug 2. We were there for about 2 1/2 hours.
Tyler felt pretty decent most of Saturday. Sunday was really hard. Tyler was really sick. Thankfully we have supportive friends, family and Heavenly help to buoy us up. God is still Great.
