December 15 - University of Colorado Hospital

We had a nice uneventful flight from St George to Denver on Tuesday. And then stayed with Brent's Aunt Judie and Uncle Ed in Aurora. What wonderful people! Wednesday started bright and early (5:30) with breakfast and a 20 minute drive to the University of Colorado Hospital. We met Emily and went over the 24 page clinical trial documents. Then over the next 7 hours Tyler had an MRI, CT, ECHO, eye exam, blood work and ECG.

The University of Colorado hospital is huge! And we got lost more than once. Blessedly, we made it to most of our appointments on time. The wind was blowing so hard that the power went out all over the hospital...and it just happened to be when Tyler was in the MRI scanner!

The lights came back on quickly, but the MRI scanner didn't. They had to try rebooting it while Tyler was inside. So instead of being in the machine for 25 minutes, he was there for almost an hour! If you have ever had an MRI you would know that its a very small space. Tyler is amazing!

We met with a kind new doctor named Emily and Dr. Camidge later in the afternoon. Dr. Emily went over Tyler's CT and MRI with us. Going into this appointment we knew Tyler's scan wouldn't be great. We found out that Tyler has a tumor growing in his lower back by his right hip and that his pelvis has been cracked. No wonder he has been in so much pain! Cancer cells weaken the tissue, so the pelvis bones have become weak and break more easily. There wasn't much they could do for Tyler.

After all the appointments and tests, we were ready to head home!

Tyler is scheduled to start the new medication the beginning of January. We are hopeful that this unproven medication will help cure his lung cancer. We feel blessed that Tyler will get to start the trial so much sooner than we thought. God is still Great!

Thanks so much for this update. A power outage that keeps you in the MRI for an hour? That makes me want to wiggle my toes! Welcome home, Tyler! God bless.
