Cold Feet and a New Hair Cut

Wednesday was interesting day in the cancer center. We started out with blood work that didn't go as planned. Tyler's veins wouldn't cooperate so he ended up getting poked 5 times. Even their best nurse couldn't get it right. Then we met with Tyler's oncologist and the nurse navigator. We went into the appointments feeling pretty confident and left feeling defeated. Tyler's new chemo/ immune therapy regiment has some potential hard core side effects. We spent an hour listening to the nurse talk about all that might go wrong. It was draining.
Thursday was a long day for Tyler. It took the nurses 4 attempts to place the venous catheter today. Tyler started the first infusion at 9:30 AM and finished the 4th at 4:30 PM. Neuropathy is a side effect of the new chemotherapy, so Tyler has to have his hands and feet on ice for the 3 hour infusion. He felt like a penguin by the end! :) Tyler's friend Nate came and sat with him for a while. Good friends make a difference.

We learned from the nurse navigator that 100% of people on Taxol lose their hair within the first 3-6 weeks. Tyler decided that he wanted to cut his hair really short before it falls out. So on Friday we had a hair cutting party. Our brother in law, nephews and son Preston, decided to cut their hair too! It was a very sweet gesture.

Tyler felt pretty good the first few days after treatment. Since Saturday night he has been in terrible pain. We hope its just the chemotherapy working on the cancer. In three weeks Tyler will receive another 6 hour infusion. We are hopeful this new treatment will make a difference. God is still Great!
